Midmarket companies realize the importance of outsourcing data backup as the volume of data is ever increasing and storage costs are decreasing. Storage Service Providers (SSPs) were formed to meet the increasing need of data storage and include: on-site backup, Software as a Service (SaaS)-based backup, and full-service backup providers. Adexis is a full-service backup provider that bundles SaaS solutions and network attached devices to offer full-service to their customers.
There are numerous benefits in outsourcing data backup including low price, constant monitoring and management, built-in disaster recovery plans that store off site, speed, automating a traditionally manual process, and improved security.
Outsourcing data backup usually costs a company more than their previous storage strategy. However, for companies the benefits outweigh the costs involved. SSPs pricing for most midmarket companies is based on service level and storage capacity, charging fees for both basic services and per gigabyte. Price points continue to get lower as large vendors such as Symantec enter the backup space making outsourcing a feasible option for every company.
Symantec created a division named Symantec Protection Network, which includes an online data backup service. This service is distinctive because it allows service providers to order a private-branded managed solution. Nick Cellentani, vice president of storage consulting and operations at Adexis, an SSP that plans to sell this technology, says the Symantec service will be offered exclusively through partners and priced competitively.
We need to be able to compete with the guys who have been doing this for a while, Cellentani says, "In this world of outsourced data backup, where you have companies charging $5 a month, you can't really charge an arm and a leg, or youll be blown out of the water by someone else." Adexis and Symantec partner together in order to provide a competitively priced, unique, full-service data backup service solution that meets the needs of midmarket companies.
